Perhaps the most technologically advanced form is vertical farming, where crops are grown indoors in stacked layers, often using hydroponic or aeroponic systems. These controlled environments allow for year-round production, independent of weather conditions, and use significantly less water and land than conventional methods.
The benefits of urban farming are multi-faceted. Environmentally, it reduces 'food miles'—the distance food travels from farm to plate—thereby lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
